For a brief period of the year, between the dry and rainy seasons (September through November), an otherwise ordinary looking river in the Meta region of Colombia transforms into a liquid rainbow.

A dull green hue of the gives way to a cavalcade of rich reds, yellows, greens and blues as the riverbed algae found only in this part of Colombia blossoms in response to river depth falling to its trigger level.
Few travellers ever bear witness to the natural occurrence on account of its remote location, though we suspect images like these have made plenty of people itch to make the arduous journey.
