Looking to bag a bargain holiday in 2014? Confused.com revealed some of the cheapest holiday destinations for travel insurance; some are even cheaper than the countries’ local pint of beer!

From the remote Faroe Islands to the party-hearty Czech Republic, here are our top five cheapest holiday destinations for travel insurance.

Faroe Islands

Flights to Vágar: from £575

Travel insurance: £4.20

Pint: £4.68

Made up of 18 islands halfway between Norway and Iceland; you’ll be no more than 3 miles away from the shore, and with regular ferries and helicopters you can easily hop from island to island.

The primary appeal of the Faroe Islands is being in the great outdoors, so you’re more likely to feel the fresh air than the stretch of your wallet. As the Faroe Islands are quite remote, if you were unfortunate enough to twist your ankle on the rocky landscape you might need to be airlifted to hospital, or even flown to the mainland. Luckily, with travel insurance only costing less than the local tipple, this would be covered.

Slovakia

Flights to Bratislava: from £304

Travel insurance: £4.60

Pint price: £0.80

By taking a short two-hour flight from London Heathrow, you can step into the fairy-tale landscape of Slovakia. With its rich history, magnificent views and natural beauty everywhere you look, Slovakia offers something for everyone.

Thrill-seekers can experience some of Slovakia’s largest ski resorts at an affordable price, such as Jasná which is one of Europe’s hidden gems for ski-lovers. A standard travel policy won’t cover you if you injure yourself on the slopes, so you might want to take out specialist winter sports cover.

Netherlands

Flights to Amsterdam: from £77

Travel insurance: £4.63

Pint price: £1.69

A fascinating country known for its traditional windmills, delicious cheese and wooden clogs, more than 1.8 million Brits say “Hallo” to the Netherlands each year.

Amsterdam is one of the most popular city-break and stag-do destinations in Europe, so it’s worth being extra careful. Research by Confused.com shows that one in 10 party-goers on foreign stag do’s have missed their flight home and many had their luggage lost or stolen after partying too hard. At the cost of £4.63 for travel insurance there is no excuse for not being covered.

Home, otherwise known as the United Kingdom

Flights to Edinburgh: from £88

Travel insurance: £4.64

Pint price: £3

With thousands of British families now choosing to holiday in the UK rather than abroad, staycations are popular. According to the Great British Tourism Survey, there has been a 9 per cent increase of domestic overnight holidays in the UK compared to last year.

Since you’d be treated by the NHS if you injure yourself, your policy wouldn’t necessarily be needed for medical emergencies, but it could still be handy if your flight is cancelled, you lose your luggage or if you fall ill before going on your trip. Just remember to swap the sunblock for a brolly!

Czech Republic

Flights to Prague: from £121

Travel insurance: £4.76

Pint: £0.71

The Czech Republic is almost entirely surrounded by mountains and is home to more than 2,000 castles and ruins, making it the perfect destination for a budding photographer to get some artsy snaps.

With one of the lowest prices for a pint of beer in any European capital, the Czech Republic, and the capital of Prague in particular, has a reputation for booze-filled weekends away.

Be a savvy tourist and make sure that you don’t let one too many local beers result in you losing your bags, or worse, missing your flight home. Standard travel cover isn’t likely to cover alcohol related incidents, so be careful if you decide to go on a Czech pub crawl.

From culture-lovers to thrill seekers, these destinations offer something for everyone, and with both the holiday and insurance costs as low as they are, there’s no excuse to say no to a visit.
