Travelnomics UK I:

Welcome to our very first issue of Travelnomics UK where you can find comprehensive insight on the travel industry’s main events during the first quarter of 2009.  Highlights include not only a round up of occurrences, but also their potential impact on consumers and travel in general.

Here’s a sneak preview of what to expect:

  • Competition Commission’s airport shuffle: Three of BAA’s seven airports are set for sale as a result of the Commission’s decision.  Although consumers and airlines would stand to benefit from the sale, BAA has appealed the decision pending further notice
  • e-Borders scheme: What is it?  What does it mean for consumers and how will it benefit border protection?
  • Airline consolidation: The dance between British Airways and Iberia continues to take centre stage among various others in the ‘will they won’t they’ debacle.  Travelnomics UK hones in on the BA/Iberia merger possibility as well as exploring what consolidation means for consumers and for the industry as a whole
  • Hidden extras:  Consumer concerns over what they’ll be charged for next continue to gather as airlines are faced with the potential consequences of adding more ‘extras’
  • Airport expansion: Who’s got the go ahead on adding a new terminal and what could it mean for consumers, business and tourism?
  • Increased sales: Airlines have increased sales in an effort to combat falling passenger numbers – read up on what can be found and where to go to make your Pound stretch further

You can also find the last quarter’s most popular routes, price comparisons per region, and our latest survey results among a wealth of other information.  We hope you enjoy our first issue of Travelnomics UK.
