This coastal town in Mexico offers typical seaside ambience and activities and is a good choice for singles, couples and families. The sunshine and sea offer a great vibe for relaxation, play and bonding. Like many Mexican cities, it has an exotic, ethnic flavour, combined with a cityscape that is vibrant and contemporary. No less than 36 sandy beaches make up the coastline. Diving, snorkelling and boating or yachting are all available in this great city and are accessible by foot, taxi or boat. The Botazoo Ecological Park is a great way to learn about the area’s nature and wildlife. The Iguana Sanctuary, Copalita River and waterfalls and the Mazunte Turtle Sanctuary make great day trips.
At La Gloria you can see a working coffee plantation and see how they harvest and prepare your favourite drink. At La Bocana you can get a Zapoteca mud bath to help you relax and unwind. If retail therapy is more your taste, shopping in the area is quite good and there are several markets in the area where you can get arts, crafts and local produce. Eating is also good in Huatulco, and you can choose from local Mexican fare and seafood, or more contemporary eateries selling pizza and burgers. Bars, clubs and discos offer some exciting night time entertainment.
Taxis are plentiful and reasonably priced and are the best way to get around. It is not recommended to take taxis or buses that are not official vehicles or to explore on foot or bicycle.
The closest airport to the city is the Huatulco International Airport (HUX). It is easy to get to your hotel from the airport. You could choose to rent a car, or rent a taxi. Taxis are freely available at the airport and hire is very cheap. It’s a good idea to settle the price you’ll pay before leaving the airport. Top car rental companies are located at the airport should you prefer the comfort of a private car, which is also a great choice for sightseeing and road trips to nearby areas.
