Alongside its neighbours Cala Millor and Cala Bona, this cove on the east coast of Majorca is a popular destination spot for British tourists looking for a holiday of sun, fun and watersports. The name Cala D’Or means “golden cove” and the resort is built around a range of golden sandy beaches. The resort remains one of the most attractive in the area. Despite its size, growth has been monitored; there are few high-rise buildings and most villas are still painted in the traditional white. The resort is lively but caters to a calmer audience than some of the other popular Majorcan spots. The majority of holidaymakers booking flight to Cala D’Or are families.
The marina is the centre of town, where a number of large yachts are moored. From here a pedestrianised series of roads fans out, filled with shops and upmarket restaurants. There are a further six bays, each with its own beach, so the choice for sunbathing and watersports is varied and the beaches feel less crowded than those at Cala Millor.
All Cala D’Or flights arrive in the airport at Palma de Majorca, from where transfer time is between one and two hours.
