Take a flight to Hartford and the capital of Connecticut. One of the oldest cities in the USA, one of its claims to fame is that it’s the “Insurance Capital of the World”. Forget the business angle, Hartford is home to the Wadsworth Atheneum, the oldest public art museum in the US, Bushnell Park, the oldest public park and the Mark Twain House where Twain lived, wrote and raised his family.
The town’s museums also include a fantastic Science Museum with a futuristic 3D theatre, the original Colt Factory where the revolver was first manufactured, and a wonderful Children’s Museum filled with toys that will delight families. Sports fans will also be able to catch an action-packed College Football game at the impressive Rentschler Field stadium.
Shoppers are well taken care of, with a large concentration of boutiques in the city centre, and diners will be able to take their pick from some of America’s finest Italian restaurants. There are also some excellent brewery pubs such as City Steam, which will offer something to excite any beer drinker.
Getting outdoors is easy in Hartford as well. Take to the golf course, go swimming in a pond in Batterson Park or take a rowing boat down to Charter Oak Landing for some fishing. Head out mountain biking at sites like Case Mountain or Granville Gorge or take a day to follow one of the many hiking trails.
In Hartford you can be as active as you wish. With an exciting, culturally thriving city to explore, visitors who take a flight to Hartford can enjoy an urban holiday or escape to the countryside with ease.
