Nottingham is considered one of the most beautiful cities in the UK, and with its links to the historic lace industry, the exciting legend of Robin Hood and a host of modern attractions it has something to appeal to all ages.

At the height of the British Empire, Nottingham was the centre of the world lace industry, and the Lace Market is an essential stop for history fans.  Its elegant red brick Victorian lace warehouses like the Adams Building, working gas lamps and iron railings will give you an idea of the city in bygone days.  You will also find St. Mary’s church in the Lace Market, and though the present structure dates from the 14th century, this important religious site was mentioned in the Domesday Book.

Nottingham Castle boasts magnificent views over the city from its rocky perch, and is a prominent feature in the legend of Robin Hood.  The castle was also where the English Civil War began and today you can explore its gardens, galleries and museums or take a guided cave tour of the passages and tunnels beneath it.

The city has dozens of fine restaurants which easily rival London or Edinburgh, and make it among the top ten UK cities most popular with overseas visitors.  It’s a prime shopping destination and you’ll find high street brands and designer outlets at the Broadmarsh Centre or Victoria Centre, and first class nightlife has made it a firm favourite with young, affluent visitors who come to see famous bands and DJ’s in a range of exclusive venues.

Whether you enjoy outdoor activities such as horse riding or cycling in Sherwood Forest and the local countryside, or whether you like luxury hotels, fine cuisine and exceptional entertainment, this friendly Midland city has it all.

When is the best time to fly to East Midlands?

While the city is at its busiest from May till August, it is a true year round destination.  The weather may be warmer during peak time months, and the annual transformation of Old Market Square into a sandy beach from July till September is an added attraction in one of the UK’s most land-locked destinations.  Shoulder seasons such as March till May and September to November are well worth considering; the city is beautiful in spring and autumn and less busy.  Christmas is another popular time to visit as historic churches and venues all over the city celebrate the festive season.

While the cost of accommodation rises slightly during the middle of peak season and at Christmas and New Year, the cost of flights to Nottingham is fairly stable throughout the year and there are always attractive deals to be found.
