Fort Wayne is Indiana’s second largest city. It’s a suitable destination for everyone from business travellers and couples, to families, solo travellers and groups of friends. Fort Wayne is a three-time All-America City Award winner and has much to offer visitors. There are many family activities to be found, museums and galleries to explore, parks and trails, good shopping, historic attractions, and much more in the diverse city.
Anyone who enjoys museums and galleries should make time to visit the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, which houses both historical and contemporary work. Plant-lovers should head to the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, which is home to seasonal displays, four outdoor gardens, a tropical garden with orchids, palms, a cascading waterfall, and the Sonoran desert garden. Outdoor enthusiasts will want to spend some time exploring Fort Wayne’s extensive network of trails, of which there are more than 80 miles (130 km) (which includes Allen County). Families visiting the city can have fun learning while they play at Science Central, a place for unique, hands-on exploring and ideal for various age groups. History buffs can step back in time with a visit to Historic Fort Wayne, and shoppers will love the many malls and shopping centres on offer, including the Jefferson Pointe Shopping Center. The centre is the heart of the city and a vibrant place to walk around.
There are also many good restaurants in the city, as well as a wide range of accommodation options to suit any budget.
Getting around the city can be done via the city’s bus system called Citilink. Buses operate between early morning and late evening on weekdays and a slightly reduced service on Saturdays. In addition to the bus system, driving is the next best option. Cars can be rented at the airport. For those planning to stay in the centre, it’s possible to do a lot of exploring on foot. The Fort Wayne Visitors Center has maps available to make getting around easier and more efficient, as well as information on what’s going on in the city.
The best way to get into the city from Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA) is by taxi, rental car or hotel shuttle. Taxis are readily available outside of the terminal, and there are several rental car counters located in the baggage claim area of the airport. Contact your hotel to see if they offer a shuttle bus from the airport.
