Peak Season:
You’ll struggle to find cheap flights to Lisbon between June and August, as this is when the city gets flooded with tourists. If you hold back a month or two and head over in the Spring, you’ll be able to enjoy the weather without as many crowds, and flight tickets are available at better rates.
In February or March there is Carnaval, the city explodes with life and flights to Lisbon are as expensive as those in the peak of Summer. Make sure you book your flights to Lisbon well in advance if you want to pay a visit during Carnaval.
Off Season:
The cheapest flights to Lisbon can be found during the Winter, late Autumn and early Spring. If you head to Lisbon during April and May you can catch the IndieLisboa, one of the biggest festivals in the city where hundreds of International and independent films are showcased. You’ll need to book your flights to Lisbon in advance to secure a good deal on your flight tickets but it makes for a great festival.

If weather is an important factor for your trip to Lisbon, use this chart to help with planning. For those seeking warmer temperatures, July is the ideal time of year to visit, when temperatures reach an average of 23.0 C. Travellers hoping to avoid the cold should look outside of January, when temperatures are typically at their lowest (around 11.0 C).
If you’re flexible with your travel dates, you’ll find the cheapest flights to Lisbon. With sunny weather practically all of the year you can’t really find a bad time to book your flights to Lisbon, however if you don’t like extremely crowded cities and beaches, make sure to avoid visiting during the peak of Summer.
To stand any chance of saving money on your flight tickets during the Carnaval, make sure you book your flights to Lisbon as early as possible. Try to sit on the right hand side of the plane to make the most of the views as you approach the city.

Departure was late. Plane much too small for an 11 hour flight. One bathroom was out of order in a completely full flight.

Lisbon Portela Airport (LIS) is located 7km (4 miles) north of Portugal’s capital and is a pleasant introduction to this historic city.
With daily flights to Lisbon Portela Airport from all over the world, it is one of the largest airports in Southern Europe and acts as the main gateway to Portugal’s many attractions. Recent improvements include a second terminal, additional lighting and baggage claim refurbishment.
Lisbon Portela offers a number of shopping and dining options in its original terminal, although there’s less choice in the new terminal. At about ten minutes on foot, getting from gates to baggage claims and immigration can be a tiring affair. Check-in desks are sometimes disorganised, often resulting in long queues and frustrated passengers.
Overall, the airport is clean and modern, and with plans to develop the airport over the next few years, it can only get better.
