Peak season:
Texas is incredibly diverse and brimming with culture, museums, art and technology, making it a fantastic place to visit all-year round. That said, the peak seasons tend to fall around spring and autumn (so from late March to early May and late September to early November.) Make sure you secure your flight tickets in advance though, as cheap flights to Texas are very hard to come by during these months. A lot of things depend on where exactly you’re planning to visit within Texas. September/October sees the Texas State Fair in Dallas, while San Antonio sees their antics during April. Austin usually sees a big influx of tourists during the summer too, so you’ll definitely need to compare a few locations to decide where will suit you best.
Off season:
With the exceptions of Austin and San Antonio, summer tends to be the quietest season to visit. June to August can get incredibly hot, however you can also find the cheapest flights to Texas then. A lot of places are also air-conditioned so if you can handle hot weather the summer could actually be the best time for you to book your flights to Texas.

If weather is an important factor for your trip to Texas, use this chart to help with planning. For those seeking warmer temperatures, July is the ideal time of year to visit, when temperatures reach an average of 30.0 C. Travellers hoping to avoid the cold should look outside of January, when temperatures are typically at their lowest (around 8.0 C).
This can vary depending on where exactly in Texas you are planning to go, for example Dallas usually sees the cheapest flight tickets from November to January, while Houston has the cheapest flights to Texas from January to March. There isn’t too much variation on flight tickets from November to April, so the main thing is to have your flights to Texas booked at least four months prior to when it is you want to travel. This will ensure you find the best prices on your flight tickets. Being flexible helps too, so if you’re not too fussed with any particular part of Texas and are flexible on dates, then you’ll find the cheapest flights to Texas with very little problem.

There are a few ways you can travel the 24km distance between the airport and the city of Dallas. One of the most cost-effective and quickest ways to travel is to jump on the train. The Trinity Railway Express operates through the airport every day except Sunday, so factor this into your plans. Another option is the Airporter Shuttle service, which you can find at the upper levels of each terminal. If your hotel is one of the scheduled stops for the bus service then you may buy a ticket and jump on. It’s worth looking into which hotels are on the list after you’ve purchased your cheap flights to Texas. Lastly you can look into a taxi service, however the fee is considerably more than both the shuttle and the train service. If you can split the fare with a friend then it can be more user-friendly, however a solo traveler will quickly spend their budget through taxi journeys.
Houston:
Houston has one of the biggest airports you’ll likely fly into, so it’s very helpful to check out the airport guide before you travel. If you’re not in a hurry, then your best way of getting into the centre is via the bus services. They operate every 30 minutes and have several stops downtown. You can find the bus stops outside of Terminal C, so you can figure out which bus is best for you from there. You can also consider shared-ride services and shuttles. However, the prices vary depending on your ultimate destination. Again taxis are an option to consider, but you’ll be looking at around $45-$50 for the trip. Taxis are most useful if you are in a hurry or have too much baggage for a bus trip. Travelling with friends who can share to fare with you also makes a taxi more worthwhile.
Austin:
Austin is a relatively small airport in comparison to others in Texas. However, it is only 8km away from the centre making transportation rather easy to come by for a cheaper price. You can decide to take bus service 350 which visits more of North Austin and there are easy transfer options for other areas of the city. For around one dollar you could also take the Airport Flyer to the Downtown MetroRail Station and go from there. You can jump on the Super Shuttle which will take you directly to the centre. You can also buy a return ticket which may be more convenient and will save you money if you plan on using the Super Shuttle on the journey back to the airport. Taxis are your only other option, although they aren’t the cheapest method of transport, despite the airport being only 8km away.
