What is good to know if travelling to Menorca?

Menorca airport overview

Also known as Mahon Airport, Menorca Airport is a small airport on the island of Menorca (or Minorca). It primarily serves tourists to the Mediterranean island, with just under a million passengers moving through it each year.

Flights to Menorca Airport are mostly international, coming from major European hubs such as London, Paris, Rome, Vienna, Copenhagen, Warsaw, Lisbon, Munich, Berlin, Zurich, Madrid, Nice, Ibiza and Seville. Most of the routes are operated by budget carriers and charter airlines.

The airport is small and facilities are basic, but it handles the summer crowds as best as it can. The staff are friendly and efficient, but not everyone is bilingual so a little Spanish goes a long way.

  • How long is the flight to Menorca?

Flights from London to Menorca: 2 hours 20 minutes. Flights from Manchester to Menorca: 2 hours 40 minutes. Flights from Birmingham to Menorca: 2 hours 30 minutes. Flights from Leeds, Bradford to Menorca: 2 hours 55 minutes.

  • Which airlines operate flights to Menorca?

Monarch, British Airways, Iberia, easyJet and Thomas Cook all provide cheap flights to Menorca throughout the year. There are a couple of airlines which offer cheaper flight tickets than others although there isn’t too much variation between them all. Once you’ve settled on a date to travel you can start to compare the different airlines to try and find the cheapest flights to Menorca. Usually these are provided by Iberia and easyJet. British Airways are more expensive although there are additional perks for travelling with them, and Thomas Cook is also a very comfortable airline to travel with. Ultimately it will normally come down to the price so compare a couple and see who offers the cheapest flights to Menorca.

  • How to get from the airport to the city centre?

The airport in Menorca is just less than 5km southwest of the city centre and there are a couple of ways for you to find your way there. The easiest method is one you can arrange when you are booking your flights to Menorca. Try to find hotels that provide transfers from the airport as this will save you time and shouldn’t be too expensive in the grand scheme of things. Another choice is to find a bus. There are several different lines that operate from the airport so once your flights to Menorca land you can see which one is best for you. The buses run every half an hour. You can also look into getting a taxi from outside of the arrivals Terminal. They are more expensive than a bus and probably on par with what you’ll pay for a shuttle with a hotel although you should make sure you agree on the fare before starting the journey. If you are travelling with friends then a taxi can work out cheaper as you split the fee. Lastly you can rent a car from the airport, although this can be more of a burden if you’re purely driving to your hotel. If you’re planning to explore the island however then renting a car can be a great idea.
