The weather in Nova Scotia is at its warmest between May and October. Travel during the summer months is likely to be more expensive than during off peak times, as visitors choose to enjoy the warm weather and the possibility for walking, hiking, kayaking, and other outdoor activities that this offers. Beat the crowds and save some cash by travelling in the slightly less popular months of June and September, when the weather is still warm but more deals are available. In the winter, Nova Scotia takes on a fairy tale feel thanks to lots of snowfall. Why not visit during New Year celebrations to enjoy a cosy urban getaway?
Nova Scotia’s coastline offers some of the most beautiful marine scenery in the country, and Yarmouth is a great place to explore it. Cape Forchu Lightstation is a unique museum, situated in the most photographed lighthouse in all of Nova Scotia. This quirky museum is a wonderful location for learning all about the rich and interesting maritime history of this part of Canada. W. Laurence Sweeney Fisheries Museum contains another intriguing and fascinating set of exhibits relating to this theme. Visit the Waterfront Gallery to experience first hand the work of Yarmouth’s up and coming contemporary artists. Yarmouth is of course a wonderful place to engage in water sports, such as kayaking. Whether you are a complete beginner or an established expert, you will be able to find a course, group activity, or equipment hire station that suits your needs and ability. Make sure to check out the Firefighters’ Museum whilst you are in the town centre: a great prelude to a delicious dinner out at one of the city’s many restaurants, cafes, and bars. If you fancy a stroll or a picnic, Frost Park is an elegant and well maintained park right in the centre of the city.
Taxis, buses, and hire cars are popular choices for visitors wanting to get around in Yarmouth. Yarmouth also has a selection of tour buses and coaches which will take you to key attractions in and around the city. If you want to travel further afield, you can take the long distance coach, or even travel by boat. For example, there is a regular high speed ferry service that connects Yarmouth to Maine. The city centre itself is relatively small, though, so if the places you want to visit are all in the centre, you can probably get to everywhere you want to go during your trip to this vibrant Canadian city simply by using your own two feet.
Yarmouth International Airport (YQI) offers both regular airport shuttle services to the centre of the city, and a variety of international car hire services. There are also taxis waiting outside the airport, so you can jump right in after your flight.
