Tunis Carthage International Airport is named for the ancient city that once stood nearby. As a key airport for holiday makers heading to the sunny beaches of the Mediterranean, flights to Tunis Carthage International Airport come in from European cities like Paris, Madrid, Frankfurt, Copenhagen, Vienna, London, Stockholm and Lisbon.

The airport is small but clean and processes more than four million passengers each year. Though lacking the bells and whistles that make airports entertaining for six-hour stopovers, Tunis Carthage is a perfectly pleasant place to while away an hour or two on your Tunisian holiday.

Terminal Transfer

The terminals are about 300m (980ft) apart, and there is a free shuttle bus that runs between them every ten minutes.

Getting into Town

Train: There are no train or subway services to Tunis Carthage Airport.

Taxi: There are metered taxis available outside the arrivals terminal. You’ll probably need to negotiate a fare before leaving. The official fare is TND 5 (£2) with luggage, but you’ll probably end up closer to TND 12 (£6). It is a good idea to learn French numbers, as most drivers only speak French and Arabic. You can usually pay in US Dollars or Euros, and a tip of 5-10 per cent is optional.

Bus: There are two buses from the airport into the city, both of which stop at the Tunis-Marine train station in the new town area. SNT Bus No. 35 leaves every half hour, and costs TND 0.76 (about £0.30). The more luxurious TUT bus departs every 15 minutes and costs TND 1.09 (about £0.50). Both buses take 30 minutes to get to town.
