If you thought that deck shoes were only to be found on Made in Chelsea, then think again – they’ll be out in force at this year’s Sydney International Boat Show.

To be held this year from 28 July to 1 August, the annual event attracts boating and fishing enthusiasts from all over the world to Sydney’s fair shores. Thousands of different boats and accessories will be on display at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre and Cockle Bay Marina in the city’s famed Darling Harbour.

Among this year’s attractions include the Discover Recreational Boating Tours, which are free to all boat show ticket holders and allow you to experience Sydney from the water. Pick up a boat from Cockle Bay Marina every day of the event for the tours, which last under an hour.

If fishing has got you hooked, the Nautilus Fishing Clinic is a must. Experts will be on hand to discuss all of the latest fishing tips, as well as providing demonstrations and discussions about how best to bait a line and haul in your catch. If boating is more your thing, be sure to pay a visit to the Boating Lounge, which offers advice, inspiring stories from modern day adventurers and boating and safety tips for the amateur to the professional sailor.

Now, remember those deck shoes I promised you? They’ll be on display at the Musto Fashion Extravaganza, which showcases the very latest in hot boating fashion! If this isn’t your thing, how about checking out the Boat Building Competition on Saturday, 30 July at Darling Harbour.

First you’ll watch teams attempt to build a boat in two hours flat and then watch them race their creations around the waters of Cockle Bay – while trying to stay afloat! Harking back to yesteryear is the Classic and Historic Boats display, which allows visitors to get up close and personal to some of Australia’s most magnificent vessels and learn all about its strong maritime history.

The event will be open from 10am-8pm at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre and 10am-6pm at Cockle Bay Marina. Tickets range from $16.50 (£10.70) for an adult ticket bought online, or $19.50 (£12.60) on the door. Child prices are $9.50 (£6) online and $11.50 (£7) on the door. If you want to save a bit of cash, pick up an “after 5pm” ticket for a bargain $5 (£3) – only available to purchase on the door.
