A specialist tour operator has been forced to declare bankruptcy following the collapse of XL Leisure (website: www.xl.com).

Gay firm Throb Holidays had used XL Airways as its main flight operator, relying on the low-cost carrier’s fleet to ferry its customers to such destinations as Gran Canaria and Ibiza.

But with the airline ceasing operations late last week the tour operator has been unable to secure a replacement airline, leaving it with no choice but to call in the administrators.

The specialist company, which had been in business for 14 years, issued a press release saying that its loss of flight capacity had made further trading “impossible”.

It added: “Our thoughts and concerns are of course for all our customers caught up in this and we hope that you can understand that this was not a decision taken lightly.”

All customers will be contacted in the coming days via either post or email. Refund claim forms will be also sent so affected travellers can claim compensation via the Atol protection scheme.
