Passengers are being reminded of cabin baggage restrictions in place at all UK airports.

The Department for Transport has set a maximum size of 56cm x 45cm x 25cm for carry-on luggage, which includes space taken up by wheels, handles and external pockets.

It also continues to impose heavy restrictions on liquid containers, which must be carried in a transparent, re-sealable plastic bag and cannot exceed 100ml.

The rules about liquids apply to all drinks, toiletries, sprays, gels, pastes and even contact lens solution. Larger containers may still be carried in hold luggage.

People who require unrestricted access to essential medicines such as inhalers and liquid dietary foodstuffs must make arrangements with the airline and departure airport. Supporting documentation, such as your prescription, will be required.

Passengers are also allowed to carry more than 100ml of baby food and baby milk when travelling with an infant, though you may be asked to verify it by tasting it.

Further restrictions governing dangerous items and in-flight behaviour have been published by the Civil Aviation Authority. For an up-to-date overview of these guidelines you can check out the Air Safety Guidance tip produced by Cheapflights.
