Blackpool Airport has gone smoke-free from today (June 1), one month ahead of the nationwide ban on smoking in enclosed public places.

Smoking will no longer be permitted inside the terminal building, either before or after the security check area, in order to provide a safe and healthy environment for passengers and staff.

“No smoking” signs have been put up to remind passengers of the new regulations.

The airport’s operations director, Stephen Wiltshire, said: “We hope that by taking an early initiative ahead of the ban on July 1, we are encouraging both passengers and employees to adhere to and introduce the necessary changes.

“It will also help us to overcome any challenges before the regulations become law.”

Blackpool Airport, which offers flights to Europe from Ryanair and Jet2.com and other carriers, is following the likes of Exeter Airport (which enforced the ban in April) in introducing the smoking ban ahead of time.
