Cheapflights is a finalist at the Imperatives Digital Awards, which reward progressiveness and innovation on the web.

Chosen as a finalist in the Wildcard category, which recognises outstanding contributions made to online development, Cheapflights impressed the judges because of its easy-to-understand flight results and extras that give it an edge over the competition.

The judges pointed to features including background knowledge on airlines, travel tips, newsletters, flight guides and this blog site, all of which “help ensure users can choose the best value flight rather than just the cheapest”.

They also noted that Cheapflights has been profitable for the whole decade it has been operating and deemed it “a true pioneer in its field”.

The Imperatives Digital Awards are organised by the online magazine Netimperative and the winners are decided by a public vote, meaning the victors will be those sites that really have impressed the everyday web user.

In order to vote, users should visit www.netimperative.com/awards/home.htm by Friday, February 16. The process simply involves entering your email address and clicking next to the website(s) of your choice. One more click on “Vote Now” and you’re done.

You can place one vote in each of the categories, which include Best Search Engine, Best Use of Viral and Best Interactive Advertising Campaign. Cheapflights is up against DVD rental service Video Island and mobile interactive group MIG in the Wildcard category.

After the public vote is cast, there will be a review of the voting process to make sure no hacking has taken place. The winners will be announced on March 28.

The “super judges” that have nominated Cheapflights and others include the BBC’s Darren Fernhart, John Armah of FT.com and Owen Valentine Pringle of the Royal Festival Hall.
