A spokesman for Stansted Airport has reminded travellers of the security restrictions that remain in place for travel over the Christmas holidays. The one-bag hand luggage rule is still in place and travellers should not carry wrapped Christmas presents in their carry-on bags.

Those flying off to Christmas markets in Europe, or to great value shopping in New York, must be aware of the rules to avoid hassle at the airport.

“If passengers decide to carry fragile Christmas presents in their hand luggage, they must be unwrapped for any security inspection that may be required,” said a spokesman for Stansted Airport.

He also pointed out that Christmas crackers are not permitted in either hand luggage or checked-in luggage, and that only one item of hand luggage is permitted on board the plane.

This rule is due to be relaxed next year, but for Christmas holidaymakers it will be in place at all UK airports.

Also, passengers should remember to pack any bottles of bubbly or sherry they buy in their check-in baggage, as liquids over 100ml are not permitted in carry-on bags.
