Many budget airlines continue to separate extra charges from the air fares they advertise, which may be leading to passengers paying too much.

Research conducted by the Air Transport Users Council (AUC) looked at the taxes, fees and charges (TFCs) quoted by airlines on their websites.

British Airways, Virgin, bmi, Air Southwest and others were found to include TFCs in their fares throughout the booking process, but many budget carriers continue to quote fares exclusive of the extras.

In addition, there are differences in the totals of the TFCs charged by various airlines, making it even harder for consumers to compare prices.
