Passengers jetting off from East Midlands Airport this weekend are being warned of traffic congestion due to the British Motorcycling Grand Prix at Castle Donington.

Thousands of race fans are expected to turn up to watch the competition. Major roads and the nearby M1 leading to the race track are expected to be busy between Friday, June 22, and Sunday, June 24. The three-day event is expected to attract about 100,000 people, 75,000 of those on Sunday.

A traffic-management system will be imposed around the area. Diversions will be in place on exit roads from East Midlands Airport, and on Sunday the main entrance to the airport will be closed.

Throughout the weekend, up-to-date traffic information will be made available to local radio stations and travel websites.
