New flights between Exeter and London could be operating by spring next year, after discussions took place between airport bosses and airline representatives.

The Express and Echo newspaper reports that two or three airlines have expressed an interest in offering a service between the south west and London, something the local business community has called for in the past.

Clive Coleman, Exeter Airport’s deputy managing director said that although talks had taken place any new route is unlikely to be launched until the spring, and that attracting more airlines to the airport was part of its overall future plans.

At the beginning of the year Devon County Council sold the airport to Regional and City Airports, although it retained a golden share and a non-executive seat on the board. While in July the airport registered its busiest ever month when more than 112,000 people passed through the terminal building.
