A new vending machine selling memory cards and other electronic items has been installed at Gatwick Airport.

Located in the North Terminal, the Kingston Technology machine will sell Kingston Memory SD cards, CompactFlash cards, DataTraveler USB drives and other essential bits and pieces for the benefit of busy passengers with digital cameras and laptops.

Customers will buy the products using a chip and pin system operated by New Jersey-based company MyMemory.

“Consumers want instant access to SD cards and USB drives as they need them 24/7, so vending machines in public spaces was the most obvious solution,” said Ann Keefe, Kingston sales director.

If the trial proves successful, further machines will be rolled out across Gatwick, Heathrow and major London train stations in the future.

An increasing number of air passengers carry laptops with them on flights so that they can catch up with some work.

Catering to this demand, airlines are providing more laptop power supplies – for example, Virgin Atlantic’s new premium economy class features a power supply for every seat.
