Some domestic passengers using Glasgow Airport will be temporarily diverted through the international search area this month.

Between November 6 and November 30, the airport will carry out “an essential upgrade” of the domestic search area, meaning that some passengers will be re-routed to the international zone.

Travellers accustomed to taking their usual route should not find it too hard to find their way, however, as the new route will be clearly marked with signs and there will be additional staff in place to assist those who get lost.

Airport operator BAA advises that passengers should check their boarding cards after check-in. Those departing from gates 14 to 26 should proceed to international departures; those departing from gates 1 to 12 will not be affected.

The diversion will allow BAA to pilot various new technologies and security processes.

Separately, a transport leader has predicted that Glasgow Airport will have the best public transport links in the UK by 2010.

Alistair Watson, of Strathclyde Partnership for Transport, told The Herald: “Scotland’s biggest airport will have the best surface access of any airport in Britain; I am confident that by 2010 it will have Garl (Glasgow Airport Rail Link), the M74 motorway will be complete and work will be well underway on Crossrail.
