Travel bible publisher Lonely Planet has started gaming. In an effort to encourage travellers to check out its guides, a new travel game has been launched in association with the BBC – and it promises endless entertainment.

The Globe Tripper app is Lonely Planet’s first game and entices users to check out their knowledge of certain countries. Gamers virtually circle the world, answering questions about global culture, geography, history and language as they go.

The brand new app – which is being described by Lonely Planet as “entertaining, informative and unusual,” – is available to download from the iTunes Store for £1.84.

Gamers can even post their scores to social networking sites including Facebook and Twitter, comparing them against Game Center leaderboards.
