easyJet has begun services from Manchester, the low-cost carrier announced today (March 31).

The airline said that it would be operating six routes from the airport, including flights to Heraklion, Malaga, Malta, Paphos, and Tenerife – and in celebration of the launch it would be touring the city in an orange bus offering easyJet prices.

An estimated half a million passengers are expected to travel with easyJet from Manchester over the next 12 months, the airline added.

David Osborne, easyJet UK general manager, said: “Today easyJet has established a new base at Manchester, bringing the total number of easyJet bases in the UK to eleven. easyJet recognises the strong demand for low-cost convenient services from the North West and we are delighted to be the North West’s largest airline.”

Managing director of Manchester Airport, Andrew Cornish, added: “We’re delighted to be welcoming easyJet to Manchester. It is a vibrant and ambitious airline that will offer Manchester passengers a popular range of routes at excellent prices. The arrival of easyJet is great news for Manchester passengers.”

One-way tickets begin at 27.99, including taxes.
