An agreement between airport bosses and Essex Police has been made to station more police officers at Stansted Airport.

An additional 18 officers, one inspector and two new police vehicles will be based within the police station at Stansted, bringing the total number of officers serving at the airport to 109.

Assistant Chief Constable Peter Lowton said: “Our key priority is to identify any threat to passengers, staff and businesses based at Stansted Airport, as well as local communities.

“The increase in officer numbers at Stansted Airport will ensure criminals are deterred from entering the area, will help us reduce the risk of harm and offers further reassurance to people that Stansted is one of the safest airports to travel from.”

The additional officers come after the signing of a Police Services Agreement, which agrees the level of policing at the airport for the next three years.
