For budget travellers…

Short-haul pick: Agadir, Morocco

With the temperature averaging a balmy 24°c, Agadir is a safe bet for a budget break with guaranteed good weather. Flights in June are nearly half the price of flights in July, and 25% cheaper than the average for the year. Expect to pay around the £250 mark. The good weather makes the city’s seafront promenade its biggest draw, plus there’s nightlife, restaurants and watersports in abundance. Agadir’s modern architecture may not appeal to those looking a piece of traditional Morrocco (sadly most of the city’s historical attractions were destroyed in the 1960 earthquake), but buzzing Marrakesh is just two hours away.

Long-haul pick: Antigua

Antigua really isn’t a hard sell… white sand beaches that melt into clear turquoise waters, quintessentially Caribbean multicoloured villages and your pick of seafront hotels. June is a great time to visit, with temperatures averaging a very respectable 28°c, with only the odd (and usually pretty short) tropical downpour. Plus, it’s the cheapest time of year to visit, with flight prices almost 30% less than the average for the year. If you’re flexible with dates, you should be able to grab a flight for less than £550.

For trendsetters…

Short-haul pick: Split, Croatia

Looking for beaches, nightlife and history… all in one place? Those in the know are making a beeline for Split. Our data shows a huge surge in flight searches for travel from the UK to Croatia’s second city in June. Laze by the Adriatic during the day, and in the evening, drink and dine within Diocletian’s Palace, an impressive UNESCO site, home to Split’s thriving nightlife and some of its best bars (that are interspersed with some pretty impressive Roman ruins). In June it’s not quite peak season, meaning flights are still pretty cheap. And you’ll be able to enjoy  27 °C sunshine, with fewer crowds than July and August.

Long-haul pick: San Jose, Costa Rica

June is the cheapest month to visit Costa Rica, which could explain why flight searches are much higher than the rest of the year. Costa Rica is one of the most popular destinations to visit in Central America, with its vast rainforests and idyllic beaches to explore. Before venturing towards the coast, smart travellers will know to put in a couple of days in Costa Rica’s capital. As tempting as those white sands and warm Carribean waters are, a city break in San Jose offers a real taste of the country. Don’t be put off by this sprawling concrete jungle, if you delve a little deeper you’ll discover markets, impressive museums, galleries and colonial architecture. Plus, lively clubs with a much more pleasant ratio of locals to backpackers than their coastal counterparts…

For advanced planners…

For advanced planners: Cape Town, South Africa

Is June too soon for a trip? In our recent article, When to buy, when to fly, our data crunching revealed that booking a trip to South Africa five months in advance could save you up to £343. So if you’re after a week of winter sun, book a trip to Cape Town in June and fly mid-November. Along with November being the best time to bag a winter sun deal, it is a great time to visit if you want to be wowed by nature, as its parks and gardens are in bloom. Off land, November is also a great time for whale-watching and the beaches are noticeably less crowded than December and January.
