Last year saw Southampton Airport welcome more than 1.96 million passengers through its terminal building, making 2007 the busiest in its 98-year history.

The airport saw an increase in passenger numbers of 2.8 per cent when compared to 2006 as new routes boosted the number of people jetting off from the south coast.

Chris Butler, managing director at Southampton Airport, said: “We look forward to another busy year in 2008, and we shall continue to focus on providing an airport that this region can be proud of.”

Southampton currently serves 46 destinations with 14 airline and tour operator partners with the most popular routes of 2007 including flights to Manchester, Glasgow, Jersey, Paris and Amsterdam.

New routes included Frankfurt and Nice with Flybe, and Verona with Inghams, while Eastern Airways introduced its first ever French route, with a service to Angers in the Loire Valley.
