– The British Foreign and Commonweath Office (FCO) has created an e-brochure featuring a list of don’ts for visitors to Dubai. Don’t drink alcohol, don’t dance in the streets, don’t be affectionate with companions, don’t take drugs (even codeine-containing over-the-counter medicines are banned), don’t swear and don’t spit.

– Smoking in New York’s parks and beaches, boardwalks and pedestrian plazas (Times Square for example) is banned. Don’t light up outside or face a $50 (£30) ban.

– Don’t put teabags before travel insurance, the FCO advises. New research reveals that nearly half of young Britons did not take out insurance the last time they visited family and friends. Need we say “ash cloud”?

– Monarch Airlines has done away with its debit-card fees and has a flat fee of £10 for credit-card bookings. The airline is also moving away from the charter flights business and into scheduled, the better to compete with no-frills airlines.
