When I was going to board, one of the staff members told me that I could not board with my passport bag because it was tree items and I would need to check a bag. This was so stupid ! The bag was small. So I had to put my things in my pockets, put the funny bag inside the other bag. Then go throw it. Then in the plane put everything back again in my funny bag.

Augusta, in the southern American state of Georgia, is a charming mix of culture, shopping, fun and fine cuisine. Named after Princess Augusta of Saxe-Gotheburg, the city sits on the banks of the Savannah River. Augusta’s prosperity grew from the wealth of the large cotton plantations to leave a town full of antebellum mansions and quiet tree lined avenues. There is plenty to catch the eye and interest in Augusta and many attractions reflect the town’s past and its place in the development of the modern United States. The Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History tells the story of slavery and the plantations, whilst the Springfield Baptist Church, founded in 1787 was the home of the oldest African-American congregation in the US. President Woodrow Wilson grew up in Augusta, as did George Walton, the youngest signatory of the Declaration of Independence. Both their homes are open to visitors. The Augusta Museum of History displays a fascinating exhibition about the history of golf as well as telling the story of James Brown. A famous son of Augusta, he was one of the fathers of soul music. When you are ready for some rest and relaxation take a stroll along the top of the Savannah River levee and then enjoy some fresh local Augusta food for lunch. Burritos and nachos, a sky high layered cake and locally produced coffee are all good choices. In the evenings seek out some of the vibrant nightlife in Augusta and find bars playing soul music and jazz.
Apart from the historic centre, Augusta is a fairly spread out town and locals tend to travel by car, but there is a public transit system covering most popular destinations. If you feel like taking a tour, there are many options as well as private guides who will tailor them to your interests. Take a Patriot Riverboat tour or a romantic evening cruise down the river. On Saturdays, book a ride on the old Lady Liberty trolley bus, your ticket will also include entry to some of the historical buildings.
Augusta Regional Airport is only 6.8 miles (11 km) from the city and is served by taxis and hotel shuttle bus services as well as a local bus link. The major car hire companies are represented at the airport.
