The capital of Guinea is one of Africa’s most cosmopolitan, elegant and relaxed cities – with beautiful coastline to the north and exotic natural attractions on its doorstep.

As the national capital, Conakry is studded with museums and galleries that will keep anyone occupied for a few days. However, the true attraction of this destination lies outside the city proper. Take boat tours to idyllic atolls and relax on endless, unspoilt beaches like those at Île de Kassa. Take a trip to the spectacular caves at Kakimbon or an easy day trip to the fascinating city of Katikan with its gorgeous Islamic architecture.

Getting around Conakry

The easiest and most popular way to get around Conakry is by shared taxis. Simply stand by the road and hail the vehicles as they pass by shouting your destination. The drivers will always be on the look-out for fares. There are buses and mini-buses, but these are slower and less reliable. Some hotels may also offer to charter taxis for the duration of your stay, which is not expensive and can be extremely convenient.

Getting from the Airport to the City

The Conakry International Airport (CKY) is not far away from central Conakry or major coastal resorts, but there is no regular public transport servicing arrivals. Instead, the best way to get into town is via dedicated shuttle buses provided by the larger hotels. Check to see if your accommodation provides this service. If not, there are plenty of taxis, but be sure to negotiate a price before leaving.
