Florence is a city in Florence County and it was founded as a railway hub, connecting the area to the surrounding cities of Effingham, Lake City, and Marion. Florence is both populous and highly modern, with plenty of attractions and shopping destinations. The city has received several internationally recognised awards over the years, including the “All-American City” presented by the National Civic League. Much of the Florence city centre has the American colonial architecture style which is rife throughout South Carolina, and many historical attractions can still be seen throughout the area. The city is located close to North Carolina, with plenty of transport links to cities throughout the east coast of the US. As a cultural and commerce centre of South Carolina, Florence is littered with museums, historic sites, and plenty of modern attractions and activities, including shopping streets and restaurants. Florence city centre is concentrated with plenty of restaurants offering both local and international cuisine, as well as many family-owned shops for an authentic taste of South Carolina that will surely satisfy shoppers and cultural tourists. Visitors coming to Florence with an appreciation for history and culture will have a wealth of attractions to choose from, including the War Between the States Museum, Columns Plantation, and Florence Veterans Park.
