The pretty town of Fethiye is situated on the slopes of Mount Mendos. A lively port and market town it is close to Olu Deniz, one of Turkey's most beautiful and popular tourist sites.
It's a regional town more than a resort, with lots of character. The bustling harbour and marina is where you can watch traditional gullets and fishing boats.
The Old Turkish Baths are in the centre of the town, offering a traditional Turkish experience. There is also a bazaar that sells everything from rugs to spices.
Apart from the fine beaches nearby, Fethiye has much for culture vultures. It is an ancient Lycian settlement and there are lots of ruins dotted around the town. There are several stone sacrophagi to view and the Tomb of Amyntas is an impressive Doric temple facade cut into the rock face.
