In news that may come as little surprise to holidaymakers, new research has confirmed once and for all that airports are the number one venue for family rows.

Queues, delayed flights and lost luggage all contribute to heightened tensions at the airport, the consumer poll found, making air terminals a prime spot for arguing.

Overall, 55 per cent of respondents selected airports as the most likely place where a family feud would kick off, with fear of flying also contributing to the dubious accolade.

Supermarkets trailed far behind in second place with 22 per cent of the vote, while shopping centres totted up 11 per cent and long car journeys a surprisingly low six per cent.
