The City of Derry Airport re-opened at midnight last night (Monday, May 28), after the airport’s management completed the remedial works set out by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

Irregularities in the airport’s safety regulations prompted the CAA to suspend operations last Thursday (May 24), forcing airlines including Ryanair to cancel a slew of flights (see: Derry airport forced to close).

However, work done over the weekend – including updating the bird management system and improving drainage – means that the airport is now open once again.

All British Airways flights from City of Derry to Glasgow and Dublin will operate as usual, as will routes operated by First Choice and Falcon Holidays.

Ryanair will resume its flights to London Stansted, East Midlands, Glasgow Prestwick and Liverpool from Wednesday, May 30.

A spokesman for the airport apologised to passengers for any inconvenience that may have been caused by the closure over the Bank Holiday weekend, and thanked airlines and the travelling public for their support.

He also maintained that safety “will remain the airport’s number one priority”.
