The BIG THINGS of Australia - our favourite pictures
January 26, 2013

In the huge, huge land of Australia where big things such as Mt Augustus, Uluru (our gorgeous image is by sukhchander) and the Great Barrier Reef abound, there’s another bunch of ginormous things. Manmade things. Made from fibreglass, concrete and plaster, painted in bright colours, these are the kitsch, roadside structures that road-trip dreams are made of!
(The Mayor of Christchurch, New Zealand, also looked for Big Things in 2012, read all about it!)
By state, here are our favourite BIG THINGS of Australia:

I had a dig at the Big Banana, but obviously I’ve missed many of Australia’s “Big Things”. OMH, as someone commented on my blog, will future generations years/millenia from now, think we worshipped such things?!
Perhaps! If they last that long?! Love your blog Christine. There are a few Big Things we’re missing ourselves. We’re chasing them, much like the Mayor Christchurch, New Zealand, incidentally! Here’s a fun story: http://news.cheapflights.co.uk/christchurch-nz-mayor-goes-in-search-of-australian-big-things/
