Airport Parking And Hotels has named Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, China, Cuba, Dubai, Egypt, Gambia, India, Israel, Jordan, Kenya, The Maldives, Oman and Turkey as the top 14 culture-clash countries for UK travelers.
Every year Western visitors in these countries commit offensive cultural faux pas, or worse, are fined, jailed or deported for breaking the law.
The website has produced a handy know-before-you-go guide detailing the local customs and laws for each country with respect to alcohol and food, dress-code, going-out, relationships, anti-social behaviour and religion.
Here are some of the most extreme laws:
• It is a punishable offence to drink or be under the influence of alcohol in public in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Egypt and Oman
• Homosexuality is illegal in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Kenya, The Maldives and Oman
• Drug offences can be punishable by death regardless of the class of drug or the amount carried in China and Oman (drugs are illegal in all 14 countries)
• Dancing in public in Abu Dhabi and Dubai is considered indecent and provocative and can lead to deportation
