Peak Season:
The peak season takes place during the Scottish summer months of July to September and is the most popular time to book a flight to Stornoway. Stornoway does not receive as many visitors as the mainland, however the lower number of hotels may mean that room prices are high due to their limited capacity. The area is quite popular for music events, attracting both local and international acts, as well as festivals such as the Autumn Leaf Peepin treks and walks, and the Tiree Music Festival.
Off Season:
October to January are the winter months, and will see very few visitors thanks to the harsh winter. However, the benefit of these severe weather conditions is that many cheap flights to Stornoway are available during this period.
Shoulder Season:
From March to June, the climate begins to improve and the festival season begins to pick up pace. Festivals and events during this period include the Highlands & Islands Music & Dance Festival, as well as the Scottish Series sailing event. Be sure to book travel and rooms well in advance to beat the inevitable price increases.

Stornoway is a Scottish city located on the Isle of Lewis, and is one of the most northern settlements in the UK. The Isle has a rich history, and the city itself was founded by the Vikings in the 9th century. Much of the city and surrounding area is steeped in history, cultural landmarks, modern attractions and festivals.
There is something to appeal to all visitors taking a flight to Stornoway, although the area will have a greater appeal to those with a love of Scottish scenery, history, and cultural festivals. Arnoal Blackhouse is an outdoor museum and authentic look into the early settlement of the Isle. The impressive late middle ages Lews Castle is open to visitors, and also includes an art gallery.
The large harbour area has plenty of local seafood restaurants and bars, and there are plenty of local and family owned businesses in the surrounding streets which cannot be found anywhere else. Stornoway promises to offer many unique experiences and a small town atmosphere which is a welcome change to many visitors from the metropolitan areas.
The city, and the rest of the Isle, is quite small, so is possible to reach many of the points of interest by foot. There are small taxi firms available, as well as a local shuttle bus service to get to some of the more out of the way attractions.
The closest airport serving flights to Stornoway is Inverness Airport (INV), however it will be necessary to travel by ferry to the Isle of Lewis. If taking a ferry from Inverness, the trip will take several hours, however a City Link bus to Skye, and then a ferry, will take approximately the same amount of time.
