Passengers flying out of Manchester Airport were affected by delays this morning (August 7). Power failures at the hub meant that some flights were delayed by as much as an hour.

At 5.30am this morning power surges caused problems, although emergency power ensured that security was not compromised. Engineers worked to fix the problem and power has now been restored.

A spokeswoman told the Manchester Evening News: “We have not had to cancel any flights, but there were delays of up to an hour in some cases.

“We have been advising passengers to turn up on time, but not to arrive any earlier than usual.”

The newspaper noted that the M60 has been closed near the airport, however, and advised those passengers arriving by car to leave extra time to get to the terminal.

Some 85 airlines fly from Manchester, including British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Emirates and bmibaby.
