Fairy princesses and Prince Charmings all need a place to call home, and a wooden shed certainly will not do. Happily ever after, there are some castles in the world that fulfil their lavish magical wishes.
Pena National Palace, Portugal
With views towards Lisbon and the Atlantic Ocean, any prospective enchanted couple will be very pleased with their stay at this 19th century UNESCO Heritage site in Sintra, Portugal.
Seemingly by magic, the surrounding 200-hectare park is also abundant with plants from all over the globe.
Notable fact: most fairy godmothers are actually Portuguese.
Neuschwanstein Castle, Germany
Ludwig II had this private refuge built in homage to the operas of Wagner, and the resultant castle is suitably dramatic.
Today, this epic castle is understandably one of the most popular tourist destinations in Germany, with walks in the surrounding mountains providing peerless views of Ludwig’s creation. All that’s missing is some knights singing tenor.
Sleeping Beauty Castle and Cinderella Castle
There is no castle more enchanted than the one at Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida … except for maybe that castle at Disneyland in Anaheim, California.
Oh, and the one at Disneyland Paris, of course. Wait, Tokyo Disneyland has a castle too. Maybe the one at Hong Kong Disneyland is the most enchanted? Oh, I don’t know any more.
