Scandinavian airline SAS has launched its new Smart Pass in a bid to make it easier for travellers hopping over to Scandinavia this year.

The new pass – which used the same “near field communication” (NFC) technology as London’s Oyster card – will make the airport experience for visitors to Denmark, Sweden and Norway far more straightforward.

The new pass will be able to be used on self-service check-in machines, to fast track through security queues, in airport lounges and for duty-free shopping.

Vice-president for product and customer service at SAS, Lena Rokaas, said, “We can see that NFC is the future. We are therefore proud to be one of the first airlines in the world to offer such a smart solution.”

The pass – which will initially only be available to EuroBonus Gold members but could be rolled out to all in the future – will be launched in September this year, in time for the winter holiday season.

SAS offers direct flights to a handful of destinations across Scandinavia, including Oslo, Copenhagen and Stockholm.
