Newsletter hits record five million global subscribers – up by 33 per cent year on year

When Cheapflights’ founder, travel editor John Hatt, launched the first travel fare search and comparison website back in 1996 he set out a number of guidelines as to how it might best prosper and serve consumers. As a key philosophy he adopted US poet Waldo Emerson’s “If a man writes a better book, preach a better sermon or make a better mouse-trap, tho’ he build his house in the middle of the woods, the world will make a beaten path to his door”. Through innovation, and using advances in technology the company still adheres to the founder’s philosophy. A great example of this strategy is the success of the opt-in subscriber newsletter introduced in 2004, that was revamped just over a year ago with a new approach called “Dynamic Assembly”.

Globally, the newsletter has reached five million opt-in subscribers. In the UK, Dynamic Assembly has resulted in an increase in subscribers by 51 per cent over last year and an overall 33 per cent globally in the five international sites – UK, US, Canada, Germany and Australia. So why has Dynamic Assembly made it so popular here and abroad? Simply put it’s like having your own personal travel agent looking out for deals to your favourite type of holiday destination or short break and also keeping you up to speed on travel news.

There is so much travel information and news pouring forth from the internet that consumers are flooded with information that they mostly do not need or want. By contrast with the new format newsletter, the subscriber tells us what they want, particularly if it’s available from their locality, and with our vast outreach into the travel industry we tell them what’s available. In a “sea shell” we deliver what they want to receive based on a subscriber’s location and lifestyle preferences which they give direct to us. Subscribers get personalised weekly bulletins as well as tailor-made alerts by e-mail whenever Cheapflights’ travel experts find a sale we know a subscriber will not want to miss. This makes the newsletter as relevant as possible to a subscriber. A user receives:

• Many exclusive deals subscribers won’t find anywhere else because of Cheapflights long-standing industry relationships.
• Flag-ups of deals from travel companies or airlines even though they may not advertise with us.
• Flight deals from local airports plus hot deals on other travel products like holiday packages, cruises and car hire.
• Inspiration on exciting holiday destinations, written by Cheapflights’ travel experts.
• The latest air travel news – who’s flying where? who’s grounded? Everything you need to know to be a savvy traveller.

Cheapflights believes it has built a “better mousetrap” with the new style travel newsletter and far from having to “beat a path through the woods” subscribers can now get the deals they prefer at the click of a mouse. Why not sign-up and give it a try – we hope you will like it…
