Southampton Airport has outlined its plans for the future and how it expects to handle around six million passengers using its facilities by 2030.

The airport, which is owned by BAA, said that in 2005 passenger numbers stood at 1.8 million but expects this to dramatically increase over the coming years.

Managers have outlined a plan that would see improvements to the current terminal building to handle more people, but that a second scenario that would see the construction of a new terminal to the north east of the runway may be considered.

By 2030 Southampton Airport expects to be employing around 4,000 people.
