The mud-loving adventurers tackling tomorrow’s inaugural Maddog Fitness Challenge better turn up with some serious mental and physical fortitude!

The brave, and as the name of the event suggests, ever so slightly mad, participants will race over a something akin to a military assault course on steroids.

The gruelling undulating 3.1-mile course, set against the background of the serene and picturesque New Hampshire mountain resort of Gunstock, has 11 obstacles.

Some will be familiar to entrants – we’ve all heard of monkey bars, cargo nets, ladders and balance beams.

But we can’t help but wonder what shape “The Maddog Crawl”, “The Maddog Death March” and “The Eagles Nest” will take? We suspect some racers will be loosing sleep tonight at the thought of what lies ahead.

One thing’s for sure – the organisers of the race clearly enjoy a healthy dose of schadenfreude. Perhaps their donation of a portion of race proceeds to a family financial crisis charity is an attempt to balance their karma – we can only speculate.
