Spring’s arrived (we hope!), bringing with it the teasing promise of the summer sun! But, with thoughts no doubt drifting towards lazy afternoons spent chilling on the beach or hanging out by the pool, is your body bikini-ready?
If not, no worries – there’s still plenty of time to get in shape. Here are three different paths to that ultimate summer bod.
Wildfitness – Kenya, Andalucía, Crete or the Isle of Wight
If you enjoy being outdoors, getting back to nature, and would rather play games than feel the burn in the gym, then consider Wildfitness. These transformative fitness holidays are all about channelling your inner Tarzan – or should we say Jane?
We’re talking taking part in hunter-gatherer style activities like running barefoot in the sand and swinging from the trees. And, just like cave women, you’ll only get to eat natural foods like fruit and vegetables, meat, fish, nuts, seeds and grains.
Barry’s Bootcamp – LA, New York, San Diego or London
If you want a movie star body, and fast, then a bootcamp may be for you. Given Barry’s Bootcamp is a long standing favourite among Hollywood A-listers like Jessica Alba, Jake Gyllenhaal and Kim Kardashian, we’ve a sneaky feeling it’s a good one to go for.
The programme is a series of body-shocking, 1,000-calorie, 60-minute “burn” workouts. Set to a soundtrack of high-energy tunes and performed in low, nightclub lighting, the classes incorporate 30 minutes of interval cardiovascular routines and 30 minutes of strength training using free weights, bands and bars. London classes start from £20.
The Grayshott Programme – Grayshott Spa, Hindhead, Surrey
If you subscribe to the notion that health on outside begins on the inside, then this seven-day health programme that aims to regenerate the digestive system could worth trying. After a thorough personal medical consultation, you’re given a strict eating regime that includes two fast days (incorporating the 5:2 diet).
Spa treatments like abdominal massages, hydro baths and liver compresses are included to intensify the detoxification of your body. Naturally, being an ill-inclusive affair the programme isn’t cheap – prices start from £1,295.
