What are your favourite music spots?

“In order it has to be the Mercury Lounge, Trash Bar in Brooklyn, Bell House in Brooklyn, Bowery Ballroom and finally, Webster Hall.

Mercury Lounge is badass. Small, intimate and loud as hell. Trash Bar, my other fave, has a floor like a pirate ship, all creaky boards lending a fall or two, and a super seedy downstairs hang room.”

Any top tips for tourists?

“1) Most importantly, make an effort! Don’t leave wearing sweatpants and flip flops.

2) We’re not rude, just in a hurry!

3)Real New Yorkers don’t go out on the weekends.

4) Don’t be afraid to travel the boroughs!

5) Skip the chains and go to NY-only places like Papaya Dog.”

What is the current NYC treat?

“Always the food truck!”

What’s your top 5 street van food?

“Got to be in order: Mexican, Turkish (Halal), Mr. Softee ice cream, cupcakes; and lastly, the breakfast cart!”

What are the underrated tourist attractions?

“1) St. Marks Place. Still punk rock with places like Trash and Vaudeville, fantastic rock n’ roll bars like Manitoba’s and Niagra, and amazing Yaffa Cafe – open 24 hours and killer sangria!

2) Halloween Adventure on Broadway- no city does Halloween like NY and this multi-level store has everything if you’re as obsessed as I am. I shop year round!

3) Patricia Field on Bowery. “Sex and the City” stylist is still a punk rock girl and this LES shop proves it.

4) Chelsea Hotel. You can still get a room on the cheap and the eclectic residents (some have lived there 30 years) decorate their doors and halls.

5) Museum of Sex. You can touch a “Real Doll”, which makes a great story to tell your friends.”

What is your favourite NYC time of year?

“Must be summer for the music festivals and Coney Island.”

What’s the best borough?

“Manhattan of course!”

What keeps you there?

“New York has everything. It takes a certain type of person to endure its many stresses, but it always gives back!”
