Air Berlin is to end its service to Stansted from the George Best Belfast City Airport, just 18 months after starting the route.

The BBC website reports that the airline will end its link from Northern Ireland to the UK on October 28, although Air Berlin has not officially announced the end of the service.

Airport officials have confirmed that the route will stop but has stressed that flights to Gatwick and Heathrow are available to passengers.

Ryanair recently announced it would begin a number of flights to the UK from George Best Belfast City Airport, as well as routes to mainland Europe.
