Aircraft manufacturer Airbus has predicted a massive expansion in the number of jets serving passengers, claiming that 24,300 new passenger and freighter aircraft will be needed between now and 2026.

The greatest demand for passenger aircraft will be from the Asia-Pacific region, which will account for 31 per cent of the total world demand for aircraft.
