Indianapolis International Airport is just 11km (7 miles) – a 15-minute drive – from downtown Indianapolis. The airport is well connected with interstate highways and the Indianapolis Beltway. Although it’s the largest airport in Indiana, it’s easy to navigate. It has just one main terminal and two concourses, with arrivals on the lower level and departures upstairs.

Delta is the main carrier at Indianapolis International Airport. There are also a number of other airlines that offer flights such as Air Canada, AirTran, American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Frontier Airlines, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines and US Airways.

Indianapolis International Airport is efficient and convenient, with a decent selection of shops and restaurants that don’t overcharge. It’s a great introduction to Indianapolis itself, which has many museums, art galleries, sporting facilities and festivals.

Getting into Town

Taxis: Taxis can be found at the Ground Transportation Centre (GTC) on the first level of the parking garage. There are also taxis outside the arrivals section just after the baggage claim area. The minimum fare for taxis leaving the airport is $15. All cabs have meters and the total charge for the 20-minute trip from the airport to downtown Indianapolis generally costs about $30, but it can vary depending on traffic.

Bus: City buses (IndyGo) and shuttle buses leave the airport from the Ground Transportation Centre on level one of the parking garage. IndyGo buses include the Green Line and Route 8. The Green Line is a non-stop route that runs from 5am to 9pm, and tickets are $7. Route 8 stops a number of times between the airport and Washington Street, and tickets are $1.75 each. IndyGo also offers day passes for $4 each. Private shuttle companies such as Lafayette Limo Inc., Bloomington Shuttle Services Inc. and Lincoln Land Express offer services to Champaign and Urbana in Illinois, Bloomington and Indiana University as well as to Lafayette and Purdue University.

Car Parking

For passengers arriving at the Indianapolis International Airport, and for their pick-ups, there is a free cell phone car park just off Exit 68 of the I-70 and a short drive from the arrivals part of the airport. Otherwise you can choose from three car parks: the parking garage, the long-term car park and the economy car park. The parking garage is just across from the terminal and linked to it via an enclosed walkway on the third floor. The long-term and economy lots are both connected to the terminal via a free shuttle service. Parking rates for the parking garage are $18 per day, while parking in the economy car park will cost only $9 per day and the long-term parking charges are $12 per day.
